How to apply AI Overviews on your site
Knowing the concept is only half of it. Work through these steps in order to put AI Overviews into practice on your own pages:
- Rank well for the query first; Overviews mostly cite pages Google already trusts.
- Give clear, self-contained answers under descriptive headings.
- Add depth an overview can't replace, such as examples, tools and data, so people still click.
Common mistakes to avoid
Most sites that struggle with AI Overviews fall into the same traps. Check your pages against each of these before moving on:
- Trying to block or game Overviews instead of earning a citation.
- Assuming Google-Extended controls Overviews; it doesn't.
- Losing clicks on purely definitional pages and not adding anything beyond the definition.
