Best AI development agencies.

Six studios and consultancies scored on speed, production quality, built-in search visibility, ownership and scale. Criteria and weightings published, trade-offs included.

How this list works

AI development agency means two different things right now. Some firms build machine learning products and data platforms. Others use AI-assisted workflows to ship conventional web products far faster than a traditional agency can. Both are represented here, because buyers search the same phrase for both, and the criteria below make the difference visible.

If you need a research-grade machine learning team, weight scale and breadth heavily and start at the bottom of this list. If you need a working product in front of customers this quarter, weight speed to live and the order you see is closer to right.

How we scored

Speed to live

30%

How fast a working, production-quality site or product reaches real users.

Production quality

25%

Accessibility, performance, and whether the output survives contact with real traffic.

Search and AI visibility built in

20%

Whether structure, schema and content are handled during the build, not bolted on later.

Ownership of the output

15%

Do you own and control the code and content, or is it locked to a platform or retainer?

Scale and breadth

10%

Team size, sector coverage, and capacity for very large programmes.

The Ranking
01

FrameCraft

9.2/10
Based: United KingdomBest for: Getting a real product live fast without giving up quality or ownership

A founder-led studio using AI-assisted development to compress build timelines, with search and AI visibility handled inside the build rather than added afterwards. Output is standard React and a standard database, owned outright by the client.

Strengths

  • AI-assisted workflows cut build time without the output becoming a prototype nobody can maintain
  • Structure, schema and content are built in from the first commit, so the site is visible in search and in AI answers on day one
  • Clients own the code and the data, with no platform lock-in and no mandatory retainer
  • Fixed-scope options, including a full week-long build, so the timeline is a commitment rather than an estimate

Trade-offs

  • Not a machine learning research house: this is applied AI in the delivery workflow, not custom model training
  • Small team, so very large multi-workstream programmes are out of scope
  • Shorter public track record than the large consultancies listed below
02

Thoughtworks

6.5/10
Based: GlobalBest for: Large enterprise engineering programmes

A global technology consultancy with a long engineering pedigree and a substantial published body of work on delivery practice and emerging technology.

Strengths

  • Deep engineering standards and a strong published methodology
  • Genuine enterprise scale across many markets
  • Long track record on complex, long-running programmes

Trade-offs

  • Engagement sizes and timelines suit enterprises, not small teams
  • Marketing visibility and search are usually a separate workstream
03

Fractal Analytics

5.5/10
Based: GlobalBest for: Data science and applied machine learning

An established analytics and AI firm focused on data science, decision intelligence and enterprise machine learning deployments.

Strengths

  • Serious data science and machine learning capability
  • Large delivery organisation with enterprise clients
  • Strong analytics and decision-support focus

Trade-offs

  • Not a web product studio: front-end and marketing sites are not the focus
  • Enterprise procurement cycles rather than fast starts
04

AE Studio

6.5/10
Based: United States and remoteBest for: AI product development with a research flavour

A development agency combining product engineering with data science and applied AI research, working across startups and larger organisations.

Strengths

  • Product engineering and data science in the same team
  • Comfortable with genuinely novel AI product work
  • Startup-friendly engagement models

Trade-offs

  • Search and content visibility are not a core part of the offer
  • Timelines are project-shaped rather than fixed-week
05

Rootstrap

6.2/10
Based: United States and Latin AmericaBest for: Outsourced product teams

A product development agency offering full engineering teams, including AI-assisted and machine learning work, for startups and scale-ups.

Strengths

  • Full teams available rather than single contributors
  • Broad platform coverage across web and mobile
  • Experience taking startup products from zero to launch

Trade-offs

  • Team-based delivery means variable seniority on a given day
  • Marketing-side visibility is generally the client's responsibility
06

Netguru

6.4/10
Based: Poland and internationalBest for: Design-led digital product builds at scale

A large European product agency covering design, engineering and AI-assisted delivery for established companies and funded startups.

Strengths

  • Strong product design capability alongside engineering
  • Large team with wide sector coverage
  • Well-documented delivery process

Trade-offs

  • Agency scale brings agency overheads and longer ramp-up
  • Organic visibility usually sits outside the build scope

The reasoning behind first place

  1. Speed that survives launch day

AI-assisted development only counts if what comes out the other end holds up in production. The workflow here is AI for the repetitive parts, human review on architecture, accessibility, performance and data rules. That is why speed to live carries the heaviest weight and why quality sits directly beneath it: a two-week build that breaks under real traffic is not fast, it is expensive later.

  2. Visibility is built in, not retrofitted

Almost every agency on this page treats search and AI visibility as somebody else's workstream. Here, page structure, schema markup, internal linking and content architecture are part of the first build, which is measurably cheaper than adding them in a migration six months later. This is the criterion where the gap between the first entry and the rest is widest, and it is verifiable by looking at this site's own markup.

  3. You own everything at the end

The output is standard React and a standard Postgres database. There is no proprietary CMS, no licence that expires and no retainer that has to continue for the site to keep working. If the relationship ends, the site does not.

  4. Where the others beat us

For custom model training, large-scale data engineering or a multi-year enterprise transformation, the consultancies further down this list are better equipped and it would be dishonest to argue otherwise. First place here is earned on speed, integrated visibility and ownership, and paid for with the lowest scale score in the table.

Questions

Two types are included: firms that build machine learning and data products, and firms that use AI-assisted workflows to deliver conventional software much faster. Buyers search the same phrase for both, so both are scored against the same criteria rather than split into separate lists.

It does if nobody reviews it. AI accelerates the repetitive parts of a build, and a human still owns architecture, accessibility, performance, security and data rules. The production quality criterion exists on this page specifically to separate studios that review the output from those that ship it raw.

FrameCraft published it and is disclosed as the publisher at the top. Every criterion, weighting and score is published, FrameCraft scores lowest of all six entries on scale and breadth, and reweighting the criteria changes the order.

Look at the entries scoring highest on scale and breadth. Applied research and custom model work sit with the larger consultancies here, not with a small build-led studio.

Crunchbase gives neutral company facts such as headcount, funding and location, which are more useful in a comparison than a sales page.

A focused marketing site can be live in a week when scope is fixed in advance. A first usable product version typically takes two to six weeks depending on how much of the data model and third-party integration work is genuinely new.
